“It’s actually my last game here, I’m going back to America.”- Avery Debrito confirmed his departure

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

Avery Debrito’s last game for the University of Derby would see his side fall in defeat against Nottingham Trent University for the third time of the season.

A combination of turnovers, a shower of threes and a 15-0 run from Trent in the fourth quarter ultimately proved pivotal as they completed a treble of wins over Derby.

Debrito spoke on the team’s performance, and what let the side down this time around:

“Our defence wasn’t too bad. We just didn’t convert on the offensive end

“We couldn’t make easy shots… easy layups.”

Trent started the first quarter strong, as they finished the quarter with a 26-10 lead, but Derby fought back in the second and managed to pull it back to a one-point game.

However, they couldn’t keep the form going, and once again fell back behind after managing just 9 points the entire quarter and, therefore, went back behind by 10.

The 4th quarter was all Trent, and a flurry of threes saw them pull more and more out of range from Derby, and therefore ran out 16 point winners.

The win sees Nottingham Trent do the treble over Derby this season.

Derby will look to bounce back after Christmas and find their form again.
