Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest clinch win at City Ground

Djen Spence continuing on Nottingham Forest's relentless pressing

Nottingham Forest Clinch first City Ground win of the championship season as they hold off a 2-1 win vs Blackpool.

Steve Cooper’s side won their first home game of the season in this year’s championship. A win that will have pleased the 28,000 in attendance.

The hosts will be happy with their resilient win over Blackpool, a side who this season have defied all odds.

The game started in a cagey affair, with both sides not being given a chance to have any real opportunities at goal. This was due to the tight and well structured defending from both sides.

This came to a stop, however as The Reds opened up the scoreline in the 23’, with a goal from Brennan Johnson, The Reds contained the ball very well, then Max Lowe gave a good low driven cross into Johnson (20), resulting in a goal in the bottom right corner.

The goal was a sign of things to come, as from the goal onwards, Nottingham Forest looked more and more relaxed on the ball, not forcing any attack, taking slow approaches to play and using any time of stoppage with no rush.

As the second half commenced, it looked like The Reds were to continue their dominance, as was seen in the first half. This was backed by the numerous chances they had from Djed Spence’s killer through balls, however against the game’s flow, it was Blackpool to get their names on the scoresheet next through Jerry Yates.

The Reds didn’t take the equaliser well, and they retaliated with a goal of their own in the 60’ from a good rebound goal via Lewis Grabban,

Blackpool, on the contrary, weren’t able to make any real chances following their equaliser and, furthermore, The Reds second goal. This was due to the superb defensive structure and performances from Forest. Everything from the pressing to the last minute blocks was on point.

Forest leave the game with an abundance of positives, from the clinch of their first win this championship season at City Ground to the complete and outstanding performance from the entire team. They’ll be aiming to continue this on when they travel away midweek against Bristol Rovers.
